PDP Lawgivers Appoint New Speaker In Ekiti

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers of ekiti state today elected Honorable Dele Olugbemi as the new Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly.

 The lawmakers meet on round table to elect the speaker and other principal officers while 19 lawmakers belonging to the All Progressives Congress, APC, were in Lagos, for a press conference.
However, Adewale Omirin has described the move by the PDP lawmakers as illegal, insisting he remains the Speaker.
Honorable Olugbemi had been made the acting speaker on Monday, after seven lawmakers were escorted into the state Assembly Complex in Ekiti by the  Mobile Police Commander, Selenkere Michael.
There were also reports that the police were reported to have prevented 19 others including the substantive speaker, Dr. Olawale Omirin, from entering the Assembly Complex.
According to the seven lawmakers, an acting speaker was only appointed to allow it carry out urgent business of the assembly in the absence of the substantive speaker and his deputy.

Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi Boast APC’ll continue to develop Oyo

Governor of oyo, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, said that the All Progressives Congress will continue to develop oyo state.

He stated that the state has yet to reach its full potential in terms of infrastructure, agriculture, industry and other sectors.

He expressed further that his desire was to build on the existing achievements of his administration and to sustain the peaceful atmosphere in the state

The state governor spoke during a book launch by the state chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, on Tuesday, in Ibadan, where he also praised members of the union for their contributions towards the peace in the state.

As the 2015 general elections draws near, Ajimobi urged the NURTW body not to be involved in violent activities, assuring them that his administration would begin to replace old buses belonging to the members from next year.

He said, “When this administration came, its early priority was to return peace to the state and ensure the people’s welfare. When those in power oppress the people, there will be clashes. Today, Oyo State is peaceful because we ensured that troublemakers are not allowed to have a field day. A lot of people tried to influence the decision but we stood our ground. We now give voice to popular candidates among the NURTW ranks to ensure peace in the sector.

“We have done a lot of work in the past three and a half years but there is more to do before the state can become our dream state. We have constructed and repaired many roads but there is more to be done and the best way is to keep working.”

While pointing out the importance of the NURTW members in the establishment of good governance in the state, Ajimobi gave reasons why he did not bring in more batches of the state mass transit buses.

Ajimobi said, “When we brought in the first batch, I noticed that instead of kicking against it, your members accepted it even though we slashed the fare. I was impressed by the cooperation we received and that made us decide to protect the business of those involved in transport (business) in the state.

“Our next plan is to replace any of your buses that is older than five years with new ones from next year. I want to inform and assure you that your organisation is important to this government because we are partners in the transformation agenda.”
